North Metro Academy of Performing Arts Has A New Playground Named After the Founder

North Metro Academy of Performing Arts has a new playground named after the founder of the school. The Beauty P. Baldwin playground, which was donated by the Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter and Psi Tau Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. (AKA), features two slides, six swings, and a climbing wall.

Playground440Dr. Rodriguez Johnson, the principal of North Metro Academy of Performing Arts says the entire school is excited about the gift. “The students can’t wait to run jump and play on the new playground,” Johnson said. “Several students even wrote personal stories about why they are happy to have a new playground. I can’t properly express how humbled and thankful we are that the ladies of Upsilon Alpha Omega Chapter and Psi Tau Omega Chapter not only selected our school to help out, but also dedicated the playground to Mrs. Baldwin. They are truly role models in every way.”

Mrs. Baldwin, who is the founder and board chair of North Metro Academy of Performing Arts, became Georgia’s first black female school superintendent in 1984 when she became superintendent of Buford City Schools.
