The family-friendly Norcross Community Market is THE place to purchase your locally grown and hand-made farm products, prepared foods, art and more. The bells will officially be rung on June 2nd to usher in its third season.
Each market has a theme. Farmers and producers have something different every week based on what is in season or newly created. Some of your favorite farmers will return and new vendors are planning their debut. All vendors are looking forward to meeting you and sharing their stories about how they produce what they sell.
In addition to healthy, sustainably grown farm products and handcrafted items, Norcross Community Market offers a delightful Saturday morning outing for all ages. Children’s activities, lively tunes from area musicians, food demonstrations with samples using ingredients available at the market, and community groups are all part of the ever-changing line up—and did we mention it’s 100% free? (Admission and activities, that is.)
25 local farmers and producers have already registered to attend the Opening Day of Season Three this Saturday, June 2nd. The day will kick-off with the ringing of tiny cowbells to open the market at 9 a.m., followed by a day full of excitement. Kaiser Permanente of Georgia Educational Theatre and Lionheart Theatre will entertain the kids, while Gwinnett Master Gardeners answer your gardening and growing questions. Noble Fin will provide a chef’s demonstration and Gingham and Eyelet will show you how sewing is an ageless and fun activity. Codey Bearden makes music to add to the festive vibe, while Dichos de la Casa will offer community engagement. It is truly a community market—for the people, by the people.
Expect to find farmers and ranchers with a variety of locally and sustainably grown produce, pastured meats, and eggs. Peaches are ripe and ready. Check out the prepared foods from BBQ to beverages, from tasy treats to tamales, and pasta to pickles. Bakery items range from sweet to savory with some international favorites. Local honey, cheese and dairy products, and frozen treats will tempt your taste buds. There are even goodies for your pets!
Norcross Community Market is hosted by the non-profit Sustainable Norcross Inc., and is sponsored by the City of Norcross. The City supports the local farmers market as part of their commitment to retaining Green Community Platinum certification from the Atlanta Regional Commission (one of only two in the ten-county metro-Atlanta area to achieve this prestigious designation). Each week the Sustainable Norcross booth hosts a drop-off of specific items requested for recycling or repurposing, and provides information on how citizens can live green and how the City is implementing their recently adopted Sustainability Plan.
Norcross Community Market is a participant in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or EBT – one of two farmers markets in Gwinnett County participating) and Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP – one of only four in the ten-county metro). This encourages eligible food purchases by pre-qualified shoppers. The market, in conjunction with Wholesome Wave Georgia Fresh for Less program, bears the cost of doubling the purchasing power for program participants. Donations help support these important programs designed to increase the consumption of fresh, locally grown produce, often by people in food deserts with little access to nutritious food. Use the Donate button on the market website or Facebook pages for Norcross Community Market or Sustainable Norcross to support these health initiatives.
