Amanda Riley, — a triathlete who played basketball and ran track and cross country for Brookwood passed away in 2010. Through the Amanda Riley Foundation, her infectious smile and zest for life lives on in the smiles of each child and family touched by the nonprofit organization.

“We all know we should not be in a world with childhood cancer, but we are. So, what are we going to do about it?” said Lauren Harrison, a teacher at Brookwood High School and a beneficiary of the Amanda Riley Foundation, a 501(c)3 that supports families battling cancer.

Georgia POW Camps in World War II — a book about Georgia’s little-known history in the Second World War

In their new book, Georgia POW Camps in World War II, co-authors JW Wetzel, and Dr. Kathryn Roe Coker share the little-known history of WWII prisoners of war who were held at a prisoner of war camps across the state of Georgia. Weaving research with first-person narratives, they tell a timeless tale, showing how soldiers regarded as mortal ‘enemies’ became an integral part of the Homefront and saved Georgia’s harvest in 1944 when most of the able-bodied farmworkers were fighting overseas.

Winner of Regional advances to PGA Jr. League Championship presented by National Car Rental Oct. 11-14

A team of junior golfers, ages 13 and under from the Duluth area, will be competing in the PGA Jr. League Regional presented by National Car Rental at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Sept. 7-8. The winner will advance to the 2019 PGA Jr. League Championship presented by National Car Rental, Oct. 11-14, at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
