Thomas Woolfolk a teacher at Harbins Elementary, won a contest from the Atlanta Hawks and Adventure to Fitness for his efforts to encourage active learning and healthy lifestyles. 

ATLANTA - Childhood obesity has increased significantly over the past 30 years, driven by declines in children's physical activity and healthy eating. These trends run counter to a growing body of research demonstrating that increased physical activity not only improves children's health, but also improves their behavior, focus, cognitive function, and overall academic achievement.

Lawrenceville – April is National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Month and includes National Pet Parents Day (April 29), Adopt a Shelter Pet Day (April 30), and National Hairball Awareness Day (April 25). In recognition of those special occasions and to honor our dedicated animal control officers, the Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement Division has cut adoption fees to $45 for dogs.

On May 3, 2018, thousands of Gwinnett County children will experience their first taste of school as their parents register them for kindergarten. Parents and guardians of children who will be five years old by September 1, 2018, should begin gathering information that they will need to register their children. Online registration for new kindergarten students is currently underway.
