Diana DeGarmo, "our little girl"

SNELLVILLE (July 2004) - She belongs to America and the world now, but many in Snellville and Gwinnett County will always remember Diana Degarmo as "our little girl."

I first met Diana in 1995 when she was six years old. We were planning the second Relay For Life in Gwinnett and looking for some good talent for the Friday night entertainment. Committee member Joy Purvis, owner of a talent and modeling school, told us about a little girl with a whole lot of talent that would love to be part of the event. (Joy now owns Hot Shot Kids in Atlanta).

After having lots of orthopedic problems as a child, I learned to read at a very early age as a means of escape.  I loved historical novels and biographies and science fiction and almost any kind of fiction--as long as the books had happy endings.  I kept reading voraciously till I graduated high school, including the entire Great Books Collection that belonged to my parents.  I had no idea then that those books and the study questions in back would end up being my education in classical literature, philosophy, and science.

Harry Khachadourian, Veteran

Harry Khachadourian was born in Palestine and his parents were from Turkey. Harry grew up as an Armenian Christian in a war-torn time and place. He spent many years moving from one “safe” place to another. His father and uncle owned a shoe factory in Palestine in the 1940’s and after the King David Hotel was bombed; Harry’s life began to resemble the movie “Exodus”.
