Make A Splash ‘Important Water Safety Tips’

Make A Splash ‘Important Water Safety Tips'

May is National Water Safety Month and the “unofficial” start to summer swim season of Memorial Day weekend. Families and friends are heading to the ocean for some relaxing beach time, or planning for a weekend road trip.

Their weekend will be action-packed and will most likely involve some swimming time. With that said, the USA Swimming Foundation is proud to promote its Make A Splash ‘Important Water Safety Tips’ right in time for Memorial Day weekend:

USA Swimming Foundation: ‘Important Water Safety Tips’:

Parents can sign children up for swim lessons as early as six months old

Find a friend to swim with

If you can’t swim, call for help. Do not enter water

Always reach and throw, don’t go

Swim where there is a lifeguard

Don’t go in unlit water…such as the beach at night

Don’t leave toys in or near a pool area as it may attract children

Never let children swim without adult supervision

Never attempt to rescue someone if you can’t swim

Parents should learn CPR in case of an emergency

It would be great if you could share these lifesaving tips with your loyal audience!

Swimming is one of the most popular summer activities; however drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death of children under the age of 14 in the United States, and approximately 10 people drowning per day.

Swimming lessons and water safety education can help to reduce the risk of drowning by 88%.
