More of Gwinnett’s character

More of Gwinnett’s character

This year my world was shook when we approached Easter Season with a “bunny shortage”.  I mark my calendar around Santa pictures at Boss Brothers, followed by Baby Bunny pictures at Boss Brothers.

This year, the bunnies “fell out of love” and with no bunny infants available, we were forced to use “Dwarf” adult rabbits.

Beau Thomas Cann at 9 weeks of age was not critical of the change.  At 9 weeks of age, Beau is off the charts in smiling ability.  Parents, Jenna and Mitchell from Loganville, met as teenagers 8 years ago and judging from Beau, are outstanding new parents.

There’s always a large group of enthusiastic talent found on the Archer High School Tennis team led by Pam Autrey and Stacy White.  Surrounded by their dedicated Senior players, this Mother-Daughter pair has Coached athletes in various sports all over Gwinnett County from the very young to the high school level.

My son Bert and his teammates played Brookwood Steamers Top Level Club soccer in their middle and high school years on soccer fields in every corner of Georgia.  This particular team had talented Brandon Chitwood who my son Bert recently called “the Best Defender I ever played with”.  In his spare time Brandon, then attending Collins Hills High School, was quietly developing his dance skills.  Now, Brandon, his wife Alicia, Sister Courtney Ondre and other members of the extended Chitwood family run Southern Performing Arts Academy. Brandon stepped in for the Spring Production of “Frozen” to dance the role of Kristoff.  He is shown with Taylor and Skylar who shared the stage as dancing Olafs. Brandon tours in productions, choreographing and showcasing other styles of dance such as tap, modern and hip-hop.

Kennedy Washington won the title of Miss Central Gwinnett High School recently.  The beautiful young woman graced my column two months ago when her peers selected her as “Best All Around”.

Prom King and Queen until recently were a predictable set:   the football star and his girlfriend, the cheerleader, generally won the honors.  This changed several years ago and the Royalty now covers a sweeping set of outstandingly charming students.  At, Grayson High School,  soccer player and Prom King Ian Renwick, was elected with Queen Christy Helms, known for her widespread involvement in Volunteer activities.  It was also refreshing to be at Lanier High school where – yes, the football star –Timothy Leazer—shared honors with his girlfriend, cheerleader Taylor Spaziano.

Nichole Swackard is a freshman at Lanier High School and dove into the immensely popular (and messy) Saturday night Relay for Life Fundraiser called “O-Glow”.  Organized by the Student Council, students pay an entry fee and then are given a tee shirt and tubes of paint.  The gym is covered in plastic tarps and sheets and a deejay is stationed in a plastic protected corner.  Students have an evening to throw paint, decorate with paint and dance—possibly all three at once.
