Snellville - Snellville City officials gathered at Stone Mountain Volkswagen, located at 3500 Stone Mountain Highway, Friday to get a look at the Operation Kidsafe program being offered at the dealership as it celebrates its “re-grand opening” all weekend.

“Operation Kidsafe will be at Stone Mountain Volkswagen, taking a picture and digital fingerprints for your kids,” said Councilwoman Barbara Bender. “They do not take names or record the data, the information is private and given to parents. The process only takes about two minutes. If you have children, please stop in and get this done for your kids. If anything were to happen to them, the information will help the police.”

The Operation Kidsafe system, procedure and layout were developed using consultants from the FBI, police officials and fingerprinting experts, according to the Operation Kidsafe website. Using the latest all-digital systems, Operation Kidsafe captures the fingerprints of each hand along with a full digital head and shoulder photograph. The information is then printed on hard copy and handed to parent for safe keeping. There is an area on the document for parents to update with a current photo.

As long as the child is with a trusted adult, Operation Kidsafe will provide the service free to every family.
