This student must demonstrate the qualities of a good citizen, defined as dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism.
The 2021-2022 DAR Good Citizen Awards were presented on February 19th by the Philadelphia Winn Chapter DAR Good Citizen Committee Chair, Cheryl Hall. Each DAR Good Citizen Award recipient was presented with a monetary gift, a DAR pin, an award certificate, a recognition wallet card, and a custom yard sign. The students receiving the DAR Good Citizen Awards were given the opportunity to enter the DAR Scholarship Essay Contest.

Kristin Shurney, from Discovery High School, states that she represents a good citizen by being a servant leader who is dedicated to being a part of a cause for which she cares deeply. At present, she plans on attending Georgia Tech and studying Environmental Engineering. Kristin was also the essay contest winner, receiving an additional monetary gift, with her essay moving on to the district level of competition.
Ashille Hodge, from Central Gwinnett High School, states that he represents a good citizen through his good order, discipline, and commitment to our nation, which was instilled in him at an early age by his late parents who both served in the U.S Air Force. Achille states there is no “I” in Team and a team must work together to achieve victory. Achille plans to attend Georgia State University and study in Audio Visual Communications.
Randal Tart, Jr., from Gwinnett School of Math, Science, and Technology (GSMST) states that he represents a good citizen in his behavior where he stands by the 12-word motto of Simpson Elementary School: “A leader does the right thing even when no one is watching.” He believes effective leaders take challenges and reframe them as opportunities for everyone -including themselves- to tackle adversity. At present, Randal plans on attending Georgia Tech and studying Biomedical Engineering.
Abigail Rabelo, from Killian Hill Christian School, states that she represents a good citizen through her many acts of volunteerism, mentoring, and caring for others. Abby plans to attend Georgia State University and earn a degree in Nursing.
Maymie deMayo, Providence Christian Academy, states that she represents a good citizen by being a person putting others first. She believes our society has become one in which everything is all about “me” and she is setting examples of good leadership in her various sporting activities and volunteer activities. Maymie has not decided on which college she will attend but plans on studying business and hopes to own her own business one day.
