Prince of Peace and the Gwinnett Gladiators

Prince of Peace and the Gwinnett Gladiators

There are so many wonderful residents in Chateau Élan who spend endless hours volunteering, not for recognition but because they want to build a stronger community.  Carrie Rebisa is one of these people and that is why she is being spotlighted.

You may recognize her face or name from being a model at fashion shows, involved in the women’s club, or welcoming newcomers at Prince of Peace.

Carrie and her husband Robb have lived in Chateau Élan for sixteen years.   Carrie works as the Practice Manager for Dr. Karl Lugus, a Pediatric Dentist in Lawrenceville. Carrie and Robb are members of Prince of Peace Catholic Church located in Flowery Branch.  They have been members for 22 years!

Carrie is busy with a partnership between Prince of Peace Catholic Church, The Knights of Columbus and the Gladiators.

Carrie thought, “A fun outing would be to have Fr. Eric sing at a Gwinnett Gladiator Game and we could make a difference in the Capital Campaign”.

So, Pastor Eric Hill, along with Father Luis and Deacon Nick Johnson will sing the National Anthem before the hockey game on Friday, January 2, 2015 at 7:30 pm at the Gwinnett Arena.  “This will be a great family event.”  Carrie said.

This isn’t the first time Carrie has done this.  In February 2008, Carrie was able to get the then Pastor of Prince of Peace, Father Fred Wendel, to sing the Star Spangled Banner before the hockey game. Many parishioners from Prince of Peace and other churches in the area came to see the priest singing in front of an arena full of fans.

Jim Hall, Director of Community Relations for the Gwinnett Gladiators, says “I am grateful to help Prince of Peace raise money. We are fast, friendly, affordable family entertainment. This is our 12th year in the Gwinnett Arena and we are always doing something throughout the game to entertain the fans”.

These tickets will make great Christmas gifts for family, friends and neighbors. The hockey game can be a great family outing for the whole family over Christmas break.

Friday, January 2nd, 7:35 pm Arena Doors Open at 6:35 pm- parking is free

Prince of Peace History
Our history in the making began its mark in 1956, when Atlanta-area businessman and Buford resident, Bona Allen, donated 10 acres of land in Buford to the Archdiocese of Atlanta in honor of his long-time employee, Leo Lawler. Bona Allen, owner of one of the largest tanneries in the world and employer to over 2000 people, was moved by the commitment of this devout Catholic father of five to transport his family by train to Atlanta every Sunday to attend Mass. Allen’s one stipulation to the gift was that a church be built on the property within 20 years or the property reverted back.

Over the years, Prince of Peace Catholic Church flourished. In October of 2002, a major milestone was reached with the cash purchase of 65 acres on Spouts Spring Road. From 1975 to 2013, from 13 families to over 3700, from 10 acres to 65, from one priest to one pastor with a parochial vicar and six deacons, three in formation, the Spirit of God continues.   To learn more contact http://www.popcatholicchurch.org. 6439 Spout Springs Rd, Flowery Branch, GA 30542   Phone:(770) 945-2244
