The Kicks for Kidz shoe giveaway will serve kids in need across our community by providing them with a new pair of athletic shoes.
In 2012 Victorious Living Church launched the Kicks for Kidz program with the aim of serving others by purchasing new shoes for kids in need. Since then, they’ve provided over 450 pairs of shoes for children being served through Gwinnett County’s Department of Family Children’s Services (DFCS).
This year the Kicks for Kidz community partner list has expanded to include View Point Health, Victorious Living Church, Dick’s Sporting Good and the Rotary Club of Gwinnett County. Volunteers from these organizations will come together to meet, greet and direct foster parents and kids as they arrive. Some will serve as personal shoppers to interact with foster families and assist in shoe selection. These partners and other members of the community are pledging money to purchase the shoes needed. The goal for the day is to raise $12,000 so to give away 300 pairs of new shoes. This year the reach of this project expands internationally to also include providing shoes for children in the Lebone Children’s Centre in Grahamstown, South Africa.
Gwinnett Rotary Club President, Karen Fine Saltiel, shares, “This project exemplifies our 2016 motto, ‘Rotary Serving Humanity.’ Our members are honored to help support the Kicks for Kidz event and give these children a great start to a new school year! Foster children in our community have so many obstacles to overcome already. We want them to stand tall in their new shoes and feel great about themselves.” Saltiel continues, “The international reach of this project this year was a bonus for us, as Rotary is a global organization. We want all of the children impacted to know there are people that genuinely care about them and believe in them and are here to help them succeed.”
