STAT awards annual scholarships

SNELLVILLE – Two students from South Gwinnett and Brookwood high schools each received a $1,000 scholarship for their academic achievements from Snellville Tourism & Trade Tuesday.

Members of the Snellville Tourism & Trade Commerce Club with Sarah Lawley of South Gwinnett High School and Erica Mills of Brookwood who won $1,000 scholarships.

The students, both attending the University of Georgia next school year, must have been members of the Future Business Leaders of America or DECA. Sarah Lawley won from SGHS. She has a 4.0 GPA and will attend UGA next year to study animal sciences. She hopes to train thoroughbred horses. Erica Mills of Brookwood was awarded the scholarship.winners RT She is a leading percussionist in the school band, has a 3.78 GPA, has her own landscaping business called Weed’em & Reap which is a finalist in the Entrepreneurship Alliance’s Shark Tank to be decided May 7 and will attend UGA to major in landscape architecture.

About 15 students applied for scholarships this year, exceeding last year’s number, according to STAT officials.
