From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, in the main auditorium at South Gwinnett High School, the South Gwinnett Entrepreneurship program will host hundreds of high school students hoping to start their own businesses.
“The Atlanta Business Chronicle recently published an article, ‘Economic Development Starts in Georgia’s Classrooms.’ The city of Snellville and its leaders have taken this seriously for several year through a close working relation with our local high schools,” Van Otteren said. “There are two high points for me in the relationship. The first is the Shark Tank which is the launch pad effort of the student entrepreneurs [The next Shark Tank event is in May], and the second is the Ideation Symposium. The city and over 40 local small business people and entrepreneurs will engage with students from five Gwinnett County high schools to begin the launch of and creation of their ‘summer jobs.’ The city plays a critical role serving as the convener of the symposium and drawing on local business relations to do what no teacher or business owner can do alone.”
The symposium will provide a unique opportunity for student attendees to learn specifically about the idea creation of small business ownership and help student entrepreneurs launch a business, Van Otteren said. Students enjoy networking opportunities with small business owners and these experts will be from both government and the private sector and will help attendees gain insight into the ideation process.
