All Coaches & Parents Need Concussion Education

With more than 100 youth athletic associations serving our County, can you imagine how many coaches there are in our community? Some are purely volunteers that step up to help their child’s team, while others have professional training with years of playing experience. Different levels of play require different levels of certifications and licenses.

Gwinnett Medical Center has unveiled the nation’s first sports medicine and concussion care-a-van offering concussion education, baseline testing, athletic training services and injury prevention programs. Discovery Point Child Development Centers is the proud presenting sponsor.

Concussion Care Goes Mobile

On August 16, 2017, Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) unveiled the newest addition to its community out-reach and patient care facilities – The Sports Medicine and Concussion Care-A-Van. The mobile unit is the first of its kind and hopes to be a prototype for other communities across the country to model.

We Must Never Ever Give Up

I don’t know about you, but lately my refrigerator has been covered with graduation announcements, party invitations and senior pictures. Graduation season is upon us. It’s always fun to celebrate the accomplishments of friends and family and encourage our graduates to push to their full potential.

Mobile Concussion Care is Coming

There is an exciting new project on the horizon that is going to take concussion care in our community to a whole new level. Gwinnett Medical Center has retired the mobile mammography care-a-van.

The silent epidemic we can ignore no more

“There is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more perilous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things.”

Head smart tips for summertime fun

It’s that time of year when we all spend lots of time outdoors, especially the kids. Hence, it’s time to be extra safety conscious and know where we’re all more vulnerable to concussion.

Heads up!

Peachtree Ridge student Rachel Havens has no recollection of being hit in the head during the soccer game that dramatically changed her life in the fall of 2011. She doesn’t recall anything about the game – just, that suddenly she awoke in the hospital.
