Many of Georgia’s State Parks and Historic Sites are home to remnants of forts and earthworks dating back to the 17th century. At these special places, history doesn’t just live on plaques and markers; it literally comes alive during re-enactments held occasionally during the year.
After much anticipation, Fort Yargo State Park hosted a ribbon cutting for its new visitor center. Georgia House Appropriations Chairman Terry England and Department of Natural Resources Commissioner Mark Williams spoke during the ceremony.
History buffs are in for a treat with the latest Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites perk. New for 2019, Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites have added online sales of Historic Site Annual Passes. This new addition allows guests unlimited access to more than a dozen state historic sites and museum, making it easier for those interested in Georgia’s rich history to explore year-round.
A different kind of beauty unfolds at Georgia’s state parks in the winter time. In the early mornings, the water is still, sunbeams radiate off the dew, the brisk wind twirls the leaves throughout the parks, and chirping birds can be heard singing the songs of winter, offering a new perspective for park goers.

Georgia’s State Park System and Georgia Public Library Service are celebrating the 10th anniversary of their collaborative Library Loan Program. The partnership allows library patrons to check out free ParkPasses and historic sites passes, similar to checking out a book.
