Gwinnett Animal Shelter takes in dogs evacuated from South Carolina Shelter

Shelter Staff Encourages Local Families to Adopt

The Gwinnett Animal Shelter in partnership with Best Friends Animal Society has accepted 24 adoptable dogs from a Dillon, S.C., shelter affected by Hurricane Florence. Mandatory evacuation efforts have impacted already full shelters throughout the region, with more animals expected in the wake of this storm.

Take home a less-adoptable pet from the Gwinnett Animal Shelter

While many doggies and kitties are quickly adopted from the Gwinnett Animal Shelter, some get passed over time and time again just because they’re a little older, not so easy on the eyes or need a little more care. To help them get homes of their own, the shelter is hosting Adopt a Less-Adoptable-Pet Month, and cutting adoption fees to $20 all through September.

The staff is now led by Alan Davis and two deputy directors, Vern Sawyer and Chandler Giddes. The news below is from an update they presented to the Board of Commissioners recently.

Adopt your new best friend at Gwinnett Animal Shelter this April with reduced adoption fees

Lawrenceville – April is National Animal Control Officer Appreciation Month and includes National Pet Parents Day (April 29), Adopt a Shelter Pet Day (April 30), and National Hairball Awareness Day (April 25). In recognition of those special occasions and to honor our dedicated animal control officers, the Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement Division has cut adoption fees to $45 for dogs.
