School Board approves new principal and district-level leader

In a special called meeting on Thursday, October 29, the Gwinnett County Board of Education appointed three district leaders to new positions.
At its August 15, 2019, regular meeting, the Gwinnett County Board of Education approved a change to its student discipline code in an effort to clarify the district’s policy regarding the possession and/or sale of cannabis in Gwinnett County public schools in light of the passage of the Georgia Hemp Farming Act, which was signed into law on May 10. The new changes specifically identify cannabis as a prohibited substance in Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS).
At its May 16, 2019 meeting, the Gwinnett County Board of Education (BOE) adopted its Fiscal Year 2020 Budget and tentatively adopted a millage rate to support the budget. During the budget-setting process, the Board indicated that the adopted budget would not require an increase in the millage rate.
At its June 20 meeting, the Gwinnett County Board of Education unanimously approved a one-time salary adjustment to be paid to all full-time, benefited employees of Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) who received a payroll check in May 2019. The salary adjustment of $300 will be paid in a lump sum in the June 2019 monthly and second semi-monthly paychecks.
The Georgia School Boards Association named the Gwinnett County Board of Education and Gwinnett County Public Schools as the recipient of its 2018 Governance Team of the Year Award. This prestigious award, which will be presented annually to one Georgia public school district’s board of education and superintendent, honors the governance team that has achieved all-around success in its district.
The Gwinnett County Board of Education named new leaders for two middle schools and an elementary school at its June 21 meeting. Jeremy Reily, an assistant principal at Peachtree Ridge High School, will be the principal of Bay Creek Middle School.
At its regular monthly meeting, the Gwinnett County Board of Education tapped two current assistant principals as the new leaders of Duluth and Lanier high schools.
April 25, 2017 – At its April meeting, the Gwinnett County Board of Education named two principals for the coming school year. Shane Orr, an associate principal at Central Gwinnett High School, has been named the new principal at the Lawrenceville school following the retirement of the current principal, Maryanne Grimes. Kara Dutton, the principal of Peachtree Elementary School will transfer to become the principal of Jackson Elementary as the current principal, Dr. Ruth Markham, retires.
