Maybe the candidates for Governor are equally qualified but the doctored pictures used by one candidate to make her opponent appear shop-worn provided me the reason to vote Republican. I will not consider a Democrat because collectively they want me to give up my guns leaving me without protection against marauders.
Each time an election rolls around, I find myself wondering how to best perform my civic duty to vote. I always figured that my sole responsibility was simply to cast a ballot; the decision is whether to vote early or wait for election day. But some time ago, I received an e-mail that prompted me to consider another option.
Today, I went to vote. I saw young people, some sporting piercings and tattoos, others wielding briefcases and braving high heels. I saw older Americans, many walking to stand in the voting line, stooped over and moving only with the aid of a cane.
Rights. Responsibilities. Privileges. These are all words that we hear around election time, encouraging us all to go out and vote our hearts and conscience when it comes time to pick local and national leaders, or to decide what laws are important in our expanding communities.
