•Presidents of the United States born in October: Rutherford B. Hayes, 19th was born on October 4, 1822, Chester A. Arthur was born on October 5, 1830, Dwight D. Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890, Theodore Roosevelt was born on October 27, 1858 and John Adams was born on October 30, 1735.
•Columbus discovered America on October 12, 1492.
•James Lawrence for whom Lawrenceville, Georgia was named was born on October 1, 1781.
•From the October 31, 1901 News-Herald, “Mr. A.E. Ewing has purchased the store room occupied by Sammon Bros. & Company from T.L. Ambrose and will open up a general line of merchandise here the 1st of January.”
•The Gwinnett Journal October 5, 1921: “Mrs. H.R. Chestnutt was hostess to the Women’s Society of the Methodist Church at the home of Mrs. T.R. Powell. Mrs. George Bagwell was the program leader.”

Running for the Norcross City Council are incumbents Andrew Hixson, David McLeroy and Keith Shewbert challengers are Josh Bare and Randy McAdoo.
FIRST ANNUAL KIDSTUFF LADIES BRUNCH
This event was held at the Georgia Club, Highway 316 in Statham. Jean Holley was the inspirational speaker. The luncheon benefited Spectrum and the Autism Challenge in Georgia. Sponsors of the luncheon were Phillip Blount and Associates, Piedmont Bank, Wages and “Sons, Stewart Feed and Garden Center, Gwinnett Medical Center Foundation, Mrs. Anna Shackleford, Harry L. Gibson, Zone Pest Control, Chick-fil-A.
KidStuff was founded by Reverend and Mrs. Lamar Holley and the organization motto is “Helping Children Laugh and Families Love.” The KidStuff ministry began in 2006 and has touched lives of children in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and Mississippi. Seventeen cities in Georgia have received assistance from this organization and eleven nations of the world have been helped by KidStuff.
CENTRAL GWINNETT CLUSTER CELEBRATION
“A Knight to Remember” will be held on October 21, 2014 at Medieval Times Theater at Sugarloaf Mills. Lawrenceville Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson will be presented the Sparkling Knight Award and the Central Gwinnett Cluster Teachers of the Year will be recognized at the event, those Teachers of the Year for 2014/15 Are Jennifer Beaty, Cedar Hill; Katherine Head, Lawrenceville Elementary; Andrea Dougherty, Jenkins Elementary; Matthew Tinnell, Winn Holt; Stephanie Flemish, Simonton; Caroline Whitten, Oakland Meadow; Harold Singleton, Phoenix High; Shawn Coleman, Moore Middle; Jennifer Carwile, Richards Middle; Johnny Griffen, Central Gwinnett High.
GEORGIA RACE FOR AUTISM
The race will be on October 4, 2014 at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds and onsite registration will be at 6:30 a.m. The race supports Spectrum Autism Support Group in providing camps and clubs for those impacted by autism. During the summer of 2014 over 500 children were served in overnight and day camps.
SNELLVILLE HISTORICAL SOCIETY OCTOBER MEETING
