My friend Crystal Chatham is a 29 year old wife and mother of 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy, all under the age of 14. I met Crystal, a pediatric nurse, while working in the Emergency Department at a local pediatric hospital. We have known each other almost 8 years and she is one of the kindest ladies I have ever known.
Crystal is currently going back to school to get her Nurse Practitioner license, working, and taking care of her family.
On May 29th, while stretching prior to exercising, she noticed a lump on the back of her thigh. “Thank God I didn’t ignore it” she said, thus beginning her journey which led to a diagnosis of Soft Tissue Sarcoma, a malignant tumor. This particular type of tumor likes to spread to the lungs as well and we are all waiting for the lung biopsy results.
Crystal will be treated with chemotherapy, radiation, and eventually, when and if the grapefruit-sized tumor shrinks, surgery. Her treatments will take place at MD Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas.
For this reason, her friends/co-workers decided that we needed to do something for her and her family. I won first place in the 2012 Pie category Bake Off at the Snellville Farmers Market with my Apple Slab Pie so I thought a Bake Sale would be a great idea!!! There will be lots of yummy yummy homemade baked goods, too many varieties to mention.
