American manufacturing employment has been on the decline for decades, unleashing a devastating effect on our local and national economies. But it’s the stories of communities and the families that comprise them that reveal the harshest costs upon the nation.
As employers struggle to compete in the global economy, the debates regarding unemployment, debt ceilings and the trade deficit rage on in our nation’s capital. To many Americans, it feels like there is no one fighting for American jobs – especially in the manufacturing sector.
Fortunately, the greatest thing America makes is Americans. The ability of average Americans to adapt, innovate and thrive created one of the greatest civilizations in human history.
American Made Movie is a documentary film examining the factors contributing to the decline of the American manufacturing workforce and the integral role consumerism may play in getting the economy back on track. The film looks back on the glory days of U.S. manufacturing when there was a balanced relationship between the goods produced and the goods consumed. The film also illustrates how technology and globalization transformed the competitive landscape for companies doing business in America, as well as overseas.
By revealing the successes of companies that have prospered without adopting the practices of their competitors, American Made Movie shows the positive impact manufacturing jobs have on national and local economies, aiding them in the face of great challenges. The livelihood of our country depends on understanding how we can maintain the American Dream while competing in a global economy. The eroding manufacturing sector that once supported the middle class is dragging down the nation’s economy one lost job at a time.
Whether you are an entrepreneur, student, stay – home mom, or a senior citizen, you have the power to transform America’s future and be a part of the solution through thinking before buying and through the simple choices you make every day.
