According to Demetrius Jordan, United Way’s regional director for Gwinnett, DeKalb and Fulton counties, “The awards have become a signature event in this community in which Gwinnett-based business leaders and volunteers come together to honor women that donate their time, talent and treasure to improve the lives of their neighbors. This year, we are working to expand positive, sustainable change in three key areas: health, income and homelessness,” Jordan said.
As such, the proceeds of the gala will be awarded to agencies in Gwinnett County that help children and families. With the financial support from the community, more than $400,000 has been raised through this event for Gwinnett-based human care programs over the past decade.
The honorees and award categories are:

•Tammy Shumate, Treasure
In addition, Sarah Henning of Grayson High School and Kristin Nicole Townley of Lanier High School will receive Rising Star awards, which recognize youth who have made an impact in the community through service, leadership and volunteerism.
