The event, which encourages residents to drop off unused or expired prescription drugs, will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Snellville Police Department, located at 2315 Wisteria Drive.
Officers will set up a drive-thru style drop off so that residents can drive up to the designated drop off area to participate in the event. Unfortunately no needles or syringes can be accepted.
“The police department recognizes the dangers of unused, expired or unwanted medication that may be lying in a drawer or medicine cabinets in the homes residents in the city and surrounding areas,” said SPD Capt. Greg Perry. “We partner with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
“At our last event in April 2014, approximately 267 pounds of potentially dangerous medication was dropped off and destroyed and did not end up in the hands children or persons who may look to sell or abuse the medication.”
