Van Adams Jewelers and the business community supporting CURE

By Beth Volpert Johansen

Van Adams Jewelers does most things pretty big. Even their big sign sparkles with jeweled treasure giving drivers something to dream about while waiting for the lights to change. They feature big names in designer jewelry, but none so largely personal as those that Van designs himself.

So, when it came to donating a custom piece for the annual Believe Ball for CURE Childhood Cancer, Van reached into his heart on behalf of a client who had lost her son to cancer.  “We were delighted to find out that one of my custom pieces raised $3500.00 in their silent auction,” says Van. “It was at that moment we realized we can make a difference!” The Believe Ball was Van Adam’s first encounter with CURE Childhood Cancer, but it would only be the start to something bigger!

After realizing what a difference one piece of jewelry could make in raising funds for research, Van wanted to do more. “I sat down with my incredible staff and we brainstormed on how we could help CURE in the future,” says Van. “As parents, aunts, and uncles, we could not imagine the profound suffering of children and their families and with a bit of research, we found that the majority of CURE’s funding is for research specifically for children.” At that point, the store decided to create an event to help raise additional funds. They enlisted the participation of several local businesses for donations. “Every year, we have a holiday event for some of our client base,” says Van. “This year, we decided to change it and make it a fundraising event for CURE.”

They asked local businesses to donate for a planned raffle and silent auction and were overwhelmed at the outpouring of generosity. The store donated 10% of their gross sales for the evening. Together, with their vendors who donated several pieces of fine jewelry and the local business community, the event raised $7,160.00 for CURE.

Kate Myers of CURE Childhood Cancer explains the organization’s dedication to conquering childhood cancer through funding targeted research and through supporting patients and their families. “This mission would not be possible without the communities involvement and the help of organizations like Van Adams Jewelers,” says Kate. “ We are beyond grateful for their generosity and continued support of CURE Childhood Cancer.” In addition to  holding the December fundraiser, Van and his staff have donated beautiful jewelry to The Believe Ball auction in May.

Van Adams Jewelers wanted to extend a very special thank you to Anazao Salon, Texas Roadhouse Snellville, Blue Ridge Inn Bed and Breakfast Blue Ridge Georgia,  About Face Salon, Express Oil and Lube, Dr Betty Dillon DDS of Spalding Gentle Dentistry, Norcross Georgia, and The Gwinnett Braves as local businesses that donated goods and services.  Additionally, several vendors including, Getana, Ashi, Galetea, Pandora, and Gabriel & Co provided support for the CURE cause.
