Wesleyan’s theatre director, Steven Broyles, not only directed the play – he wrote it. Although Chaucer wrote and set his tales during the latter part of the 14th century, Broyles chose to set the play during the latter part of the 19th century and, to add that extra visual edge, he chose Steampunk as the main aesthetic. The bulk of the production is also in an updated English translation.
In addition to taking the play to state, several Wesleyan student won individual awards at regionals. Chris Middleton, a Peachtree Corners resident, took home the Best Actor prize. Lexi Mellott, also of Peachtree Corners, won Best Actress for the second year in a row. Patrick English, of Duluth, Lauren Bell, of Roswell, and Carter Gravitt, of Cumming, all received All-Star Cast honors.
The Wesleyan Wolf Players will compete this Saturday, November 7 at the state-wide competition at Baldwin High School in Milledgeville.
