Why Social Media Marketing Is Good For Your Business?

So, you just woke up from your 10 year hibernation and social media marketing through sites such as Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest has become the way of marketing for business owners.

Stephen Brust

Wow you’re thinking the yellow pages worked just fine, what’s everybody in an uproar over. Well here’s a simple 1-10 of why social media marketing is good. This is just a sampling, there are many more reasons.

1) Relationship Buying. People like to buy from friends. If you had car problems, and you had a friend who was a mechanic, you’d probably call him before calling a total stranger? The same idea follows with social media. Why would you buy from some random business, when you could buy from the business that you speak with daily?

2) It’s Free. Setting up an initial social presence on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and many other sites is free of charge. Maintaining and creating content does require resources, but often little more than you’re already doing marketing-wise.

3) It bumps up your search ranking. Customers need to find you quickly online, and social media can help. Top social sites consistently rank high in Google, Bing, Yahoo and other search engines.

4) You Market To Targeted Traffic. People pay to get traffic. They hire SEO experts to get traffic. With social media marketing, all you have to do is tweet or post to get traffic. Traffic that is targeted to your market.

5) Brand Recognition. Using social media allows your company to reach the highest number of potential customers possible. Getting your name out there is incredibly important – studies have suggested that customers need to hear a company’s name at least seven times before they will gain the trust and respect needed to become a customer.

6) Flexibility. Marketing through social sites gives you more flexibility in the type of promotion you do. Regular communication keeps your customers thinking about your business. You can send out information on special deals, general information or tips about your industry, company information and contests. The informal nature of the sites allows you to share things you wouldn’t with traditional print advertising.

7) Easy to Access. Because social media networks are browser based, you can access them from smartphones, laptops & iPads – anywhere there is an internet connection.

8) Everybody’s There Already. Social media sites have hundreds of millions of users and a handful of them are among the most visited websites on earth. A large number of users check their profiles daily to see what’s going on and they’re growing in leaps and bounds. If you’re there, you can be communicating with them.

9) You Can Use It as Much as You Want. While I don’t recommend sending Facebook updates and tweets at all hours of the day, there really is no limit to how much you can send. And since it’s free, there’s no need to sweat the costs.

10) Reach. Social media has really broken down all of the age barriers that once accompanied the ways people thought about social media. In fact, according to a 2011 study conducted by IBM, Baby Boomers have demonstrated the most growth on social media sites. In 2010, 72% were using Facebook, Twitter, and other networks — up from 50% in 2009. So, no matter how young or how old your target audience may be, chances are most of them are already logging on and waiting for you to get started.
