Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Supports the March of Dimes and March for Babies

The Sigma Omicron Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority is once again supporting March for Babies by raising funds and awareness to prevent preterm birth and give more babies a healthy start in life. This year, the Sigma Omicron Zeta chapter continues to be one of the top non-family fundraising teams for the Gwinnett County, March for Babies event taking place on April 27th, 2019, in Suwanee.

Zeta members in more than 850 communities across America will participate in their local March for Babies walks. Throughout the year, members host fundraising events, register for Zeta Teams, and serve as event volunteers. Addressing preterm birth disparities, Zeta members and auxiliaries are at the forefront of raising awareness and money. Specifically, prematurity affects one out of ten babies born in the U.S. today—a rate that has increased 29 percent since 1981. The numbers are even more alarming for African-American babies who have a one-in-eight chance of being born too soon.

In 2018, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and its auxiliaries raised $612,175 for March for Babies. This year, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority announced its national campaign theme: “Get On-Board for Babies and Moms” to raise more than $625,000 to support the March of Dimes mission. Valerie Hollingsworth-Baker, International President for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, states “This annual national fundraiser supports programs in our communities that help mothers have healthy, full-term pregnancies and funds research to find answers to the problems that threaten babies everywhere. March of Dimes has been hosting walk events since 1970 and has raised an incredible $2.5 billion to benefit all babies.” For more information on the March of Dimes, visit www.marchofdimes.org or its Spanish language website www.nacersano.org.
