Lawrenceville and Aurora Theatre host Chalk Walk Event on July 19

World-Renowned 3D Artist, Anthony Cappetto, Joins in Local Community Event

The City of Lawrenceville’s Downtown Development Authority (LDDA) and Aurora Theatre invites the community to celebrate the Arts on July 19 and do the ‘Chalk Walk’!

Chalk Walk Event

Inspired by the Aurora Theatre’s season opener for the 2014-15 season, Mary Poppins, Lawrenceville’s Chalk Walk will provide residents, visitors and amateur artists the opportunity to showcase their talents on the sidewalk in Downtown Lawrenceville. To register for this free event, please click here.

David Still, Chairman for the LDDA, said, “Having a focus on art and culture is fundamental to a city’s ability to attract good quality businesses to the area. Events like the Chalk Walk, align directly with the ‘promotion’ goal of the Main Street program and encourage activity – as a community – in our downtown.”

Artists of all ages are invited to showcase their chalk drawing talents between 9am and 12noon, July 19th on the Lawrenceville Square. Participants are encouraged to register and bring their registration form to the Chalk Walk booth at the Lawrenceville Farmers’ Market on the day of the event. Thanks to the Local Republic restaurant, chalk will be provided free-of-charge and designated drawing spaces for participants will be assigned at check-in.

Participants will be competing to win one of several cash prizes, in addition to 2 tickets for a showing of Mary Poppins in the following categories

Professional Adult Artist – $300

Amateur Adult Artist – $100

Youth Artist (11-18 year old) – $100

During the week preceding the Chalk Walk event, the City of Lawrenceville and Aurora Theatre will also be hosting world-renowned 3D Chalk Artist, Anthony Cappetto, who will be drawing an original chalk masterpiece on a 20’x20’ canvas during the course of the week. Mr. Cappetto is an internationally traveled artist, known globally for his vision in blending the traditional art form of chalk drawing with 3D illusionary street painting and creating an animated augmented reality.

Aurora Theatre’s Producing Artistic Director, Anthony Rodriguez says, “We are thrilled to partner with the City of Lawrenceville to bring the internationally known chalk artist, Anthony Cappetto, back to his region. Aurora Theatre wants to create accessible arts experiences for our entire community and everyone can remember being a child drawing on the sidewalk. Imaginative experiences like the Chalk Walk tap into that magic place where anything is possible. I can’t wait to see Mr. Cappetto’s finished masterpiece alongside the original creations of our community.”

The Chalk Walk will culminate with the unveiling of Mr. Cappetto’s masterpiece, which he will gift to the City as a piece of public art to be displayed at a location to be named at a later date.
