Also in 2 Chronicles 1:1: “Now Solomon the son of David established himself securely over the kingdom, and the LORD his God was with him and exalted him greatly.”
In Psalm 72, we see the expectation of the effect of the king’s wonderful rule. The hope of a good king must come from our God. This psalm of Solomon shows us he recognizes his lack of ability to rule rightly and the ability to do so comes from God. “Give the king Your judgments, O God, and Your righteousness to the king’s son. May he judge Your people with righteousness and Your afflicted with justice.” vs. 1-2.
We have forgotten that Psalm 72’s request for that kind of king has been answered. Even though in Solomon’s time the prayer was for God’s help in anointing and endowing an earthly king was answered with the reign of Solomon, he was just the fortype of the real King of Kings who is reigning NOW! As Jesus Christ approached Jerusalem at the “Triumphal Entry” we are told: “As soon as He was approaching……the whole crowd of the disciples began to praise God joyfully and with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, shouting: “BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Luke 19:18. Our king has come in righteousness and will come again in judgment. We are ALREADY in His kingdom, under His authority and He reigns. The king of Psalm 72 is Jesus Christ our Lord, Savior and King. We only have to await His second coming. In the meantime we must remember that we are the subjects of King Jesus. He is in control of the whole world and described in Psalm 72. He has done miraculous things. He has given us a personal relationship with Him, answers our prayers, and is to be praised and prayed to and worshiped. His influence over the world covers as rain covers the land. We are under His wings. We are already abiding under His reign. Dear one mourn with those who mourn, weep with those who weep. Watch with sorrow as destruction follows destruction and evil spreads to its destruction, but then rejoice, our LORD reigns! Our King rules! We are His! To the rebellious evil, “He who sits in the heavens laughs, the LORD scoffs at them. Then He will speak to them in His anger and terrify them in His fury, saying, “But as for Me, I have installed My king upon Zion, My holy mountain.” Psalm 2:4-6.
Paul tells us how we are to live as subjects of our King. “But flee these things, (cf.1 Timothy 6:1-10 on what to flee), you man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, perseverance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who testified the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, which He will bring about at the proper time — He who is the blessed and only Sovereign the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.” 1 Timothy 6:11-17.
In other words my dear one, “abide under the shadow of the Almighty!”
