Logan Randall and Peyton Mitchell, two graduates from Mountain View High School, had photographer Loralee Beard choked up as they requested a picture together and informed her of their tight friendship. The boys met in third grade and became instant best friends. Their closeness developed through years of sports at the Dacula Recreational League playing baseball and survived as Peyton chose to stick with baseball and Logan decided to tryout Lacrosse in high school. The two adorable boys sent Loralee a Facebook picture of the beginning of their friendship at a Nascar Race.

The boys’ sweet story was on our mind when we met Chea Jallah and Malakai Hairston. These are two second graders in Mrs. Hallback’s class at Starling Elementary School. The boys showed up for picture day in matching plaid shirts and we were struck by how adorable they looked. Their friendship centers on a lot of activity such as Tae Kwon Do. Maybe they will have a future cap and gown picture together as well. Graduating 5th grader.
Grace Maddox had me believing I was seeing a ghost. She is literally the spitting image of my own second grade best friend, Carrie Newton. I would later be shocked to learn that she is indeed Newton’s niece and the daughter of Amy and Chad Maddox. I had no idea we were living in the same town and the beautiful girl I saw dominating the GSA soccer fields was their daughter Grace. Amy runs the preschool program for Grayson United Methodist and the whole family spends the rest of their time at the soccer field.
Another graduate that touched our hearts is Sage Pender from Mill Creek High School. She posed with a picture of her beloved deceased grandparents. Her grandparents were the most influential people in her life. She is planning to attend Clemson University and major in childhood education. She is an impressive young lady and we suspect her grandparents would not be surprised by how wonderful she turned out.
We were present for the opening day of baseball and softball at Grayson Athletic Association. New president, Darrell Woodring used the morning as an opportunity to honor beloved Ski-Bob. Ski-Bob passed away late last year from a hard fought battle with Cancer. He was a fixture at Bay Creek Park since it opened on March 27, 2004. Many Grayson athletes (my kids included) can attest you won’t find a better snocone anywhere, and purchasing one after games is a highlight and tradition for most people that have played a sport at Bay Creek. Featured are Baseball Commissioner VJ Locsin, Association Commissioner Darrell Woodring, Ski-Bob’s wonderful daughter, Bobbie Lynn Wright Wages (who has taken over the business in her dad’s memory), her husband Todd, Ski-Bob grandson Bradley and Softball Commissioner Stacy Fowler.Athletes will never forget Ski-Bob and will proudly wear a ribbon on their uniforms this season in tribute to the wonderful man who loved Grayson so much.
Finally, we are highlighting Berkmar Middle School. They recently decided to update their library READ posters. This is a fun thing that many schools do to encourage literacy at school. The teachers will select their favorite books and pose for posters to be hung around the school. This group was fun.
