Over the last 90 years the City of Snellville has transitioned from a farming community into a daytime destination for many. Snellville has become a retail hub spurred by development on Highway 78 and, later, Highway 124 with more businesses in the works to make Snellville home.

Coming home was always something to look forward to in the Johnson household. It was a pleasant place with lots of love and solid parents. The Johnson home was always the sort of place where a kid knew that his parents meant it when they said, “You can be anything you want to be, you just have to workhard.” Growing up in that kind of environment gave Daryl K. Johnson enough courage to follow his dream to become an actor.

Recently, I had the privilege of meeting Bettye Faust Torbett Johnson, author of ‘The Want Ad’. and her husband, LaVoy. We talked about family, faith and caring about our brothers and sisters. Bettye’s story is of her courageous 51 year ‘search and find’ efforts to be part of family – on Earth and in Heaven.

Catching a big fish is awesome, how about if the first fish you catch that day is a new state record? Chad Doughty, age 27, of Winder hooked and “battled” the new state record brown trout for about 45 minutes while kayak fishing on the Chattahoochee River below Buford Dam on July 27.

Gwinnett Medical Center adds electrophysiology services

Lawrenceville, Ga.  – Gwinnett Medical Center (GMC) has announced it has expanded cardiac services to include electrophysiology (EP), which is the diagnoses and treatment of heart arrhythmias, or problems related to the heart’s rhythm. Located on the Lawrenceville campus, the expanded program features two state-of-the-art labs, fully dedicated to electrophysiology. This latest addition further rounds out the offerings at the Strickland Heart Center, which opened in January 2012.

“Unique” Grayson Day has added meaning

The Grayson Day Festival held every April has always been special, but this year’s event has taken on added meaning.

On Saturday, April 26, the city will partner with the Make-A-Wish Georgia (MAW) chapter to grant wishes from four local children who are battling life-threatening diseases.

For the 20 members of the Snellville United Methodist Church’s recent trip to the remote mountains of Nicaragua, becoming a dental assistant occurred in short order.
