As part of an end of June special, the Gwinnett Animal Welfare and Enforcement Division is waiving all adoption fees. Shelter fees are typically $90 for a dog. Cat adoptions are $30.
Late spring and early summer are the busy time for the animal shelter, and the staff decided to offer the pets for free to ensure adequate space for any new arrivals.
With rare exceptions, dogs and cats up for adoption at the shelter have been examined by Animal Welfare staff veterinarians, vaccinated, and neutered or spayed, so they are ready to go home on the day of adoption.
Please keep in mind that adopting an animal is a decision that should include responsible planning for space, permission if renting and follow-up veterinarian care from a local clinic. Animals are forever family members that require love, attention, exercise, and stimulation and can live 10 years or longer depending on age and breed.
If you cannot adopt, please consider volunteering at the animal shelter or donating supplies or money to help the shelter improve the health of the animals, increase the number of adoptions and rescues and continue to offer pet care education free to the community.
The shelter is open for adoptions Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
