Norcross Masonic Lodge Awards Annual Pillar Award to Local Firefighter

The Pillar Award honors and recognizes those first responders who serve above and beyond the call of duty.

Norcross  – On Wednesday night, the Norcross Masonic Lodge presented their annual Community Pillar Award to local firefighter and paramedic Chuck Esswein for his outstanding service to the community.

The award, first created by the Lodge last year when awarded to Norcross Police Detective Coleman Lindsey, recognizes those first responders who go above and beyond the call of duty, clearly making the dedication and exceptional service to the Norcross community a daily objective.

FD1 awards 8710 220In 2017, Norcross Masonic Lodge #228 F & AM created the annual Community Pillar Award in order to publicly recognize a first responder serving the Norcross community. “Long story short,” comments the Lodge’s Worshipful Master, Scott Webb, “as members of the community our membership wanted to show our appreciation and support for those who serve and protect us. Most especially those who stand out as serving above and beyond what their job duties require.”

FD1 awards 8727 220The 2018 recipient is a firefighter/paramedic with Fire Station 1-B. His Lieutenant, Scott Nix, submitted him as a candidate for this award. Upon graduating the fire academy he received the department’s Core Value Award demonstrating all the core values on every call (Truth, Trust, Respect, and Unity). In the last year, he has received two letters of appreciation from the Deputy Chief and Medical Director for his treatment of stroke patients. This firefighter has taken the lead in starting the FLAME (Firefighter Lunch and Mentorship Experience) program at the elementary school. He completed numerous classes relating to safety, stroke care, and incident command and passed this knowledge on to the crew. Additionally, this person has zero problems to report from his assignments. He arrives 30-45 minutes early every day and works a lot of overtime to help the department with staffing. These facts which were presented in the Lieutenant’s submission make this firefighter/paramedic an excellent candidate for this award which is why the membership chose him.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to shine the light on this outstanding first responder,” concludes Webb.
