Nostalgia

My wife loves garage sales. Last week she found some old CDs, soft music that brought back fond memories.

Bill York

When I left the Navy after WWII three veterans, I attended Butler University in Indiana.

We discovered some talents for singing so we formed a quartet. We sang at sporting events and got some gigs at nightclubs. I sang baritone.

It was the age of big bands. Dick Contino played the accordion. Frank Sinatra was the rage. Vaughn Mon-roe had a big hit, Racing with the Moon. I heard Nat King Cole sing Mona Lisa at the Blue Angel in New York.

We pre-dated the Beach Boys

After a couple years our group finally broke up but I remember most of the lyrics.

The CDs contained music from the late 1940’s and 50’s. Over the years I did mostly shower practicing. Often I heard Dot singing along. She has a good voice. After a series of 3 strokes, I had to stop tennis, table tennis, golf, canoeing, hunting, wilderness fishing and other activities.

Still being mentally okay I decided to record some of the songs our group sang long ago.

After downloading some internet accompaniments, I began practicing.

Old Black Magic, Among My Souvenirs, Mexicali Rose. Red River Valley, Besame Mucho, Amor, Beautiful Dreamer. As Time Goes By, A Sleepy Lagoon, If I Loved You, Birth of The Blues, and more.

I figured I could at least cut CDs for my family.

As long as I don’t intend profiting from the background music I don’t violate copyrights.

I can’t listen to singers today; loud screams and weird movements. Brass hurts my ears.

If my idea is successful I may try forming a duet with my wife and go on the road. I understand they make big bucks.

If you lose your strength from ag-ing you should a find a replacement rather than stop living.

I saw the huge estates of Michael Jackson and Prince. I believe I could enjoy that environment.
