A Guide to Accessorizing

A beautiful room includes great furniture, appropriate lighting, the right colors, and of course – the perfect accessories. Accessories add the finishing touch, and they can transform a so-so room into a space that feels flawlessly complete.

What’s your preference?

The season has changed from “keep the heat in” to “let the light in!” During those cold winter months, I like to keep as much heat in as possible, sometimes leaving the shades and shutters closed for warmth, sometimes letting the sun and the light in. What’s your preference?

Fall is my favorite time of year

Fall is my favorite time of year. I love the cooler temperatures, the changing leaves, everything pumpkin, and most of all, I love Thanksgiving! I love Thanksgiving because it makes me realize that there is so much to be thankful for, especially my family, my friends, and my loyal customers.

The Focal Point

When it comes to window treatments, they should be a focal point in any room. If you don’t want bare or uninteresting, add a layer over your blinds, shades, or shutters. Layering can be done in a variety of ways.

Cleaning window shades

Last month I talked about cleaning blinds. What about shades? Shades are a bit trickier because there are so many different fabrics or materials used. What works for one type of shade fabric may damage another.

How do I clean my blinds?

Most often, the simplest method is to use a vacuum cleaner with the soft brush or long wand attachment. A feather duster or an old sock over your hand works, too.
