“The Pruning Guru” Gwinnett County Master Gardeners Program Announcement

When it comes to ornamental trees and landscape shrubs, the idea of pruning often seems daunting. To prune or not to prune...and when?

That’s the topic for the Gwinnett County Master Gardener’s Association (GCMGA) presentation at 11:30am on January 21, 2019. The Guest speaker is Rick Smith, known across the Southeast as “The Pruning Guru”. Currently serving as the Chairperson for the Georgia Certified Landscape Professional Advisory Board, Mr. Smith is certified in both Georgia and Alabama as a Certified Landscape Professional, and in 2010 served as President of MALTA (Metro Atlanta Landscape & Turf Association. His expertise has been showcased by UGA Horticulture Dept. when his company, “The Pruning Guru, Inc.” was filmed as part of their Super Crew Series for pruning practices on ornamental trees and shrubs throughout the landscape.

At the January GMGA meeting, Mr. Smith will be talking about appropriate pruning techniques, different types of equipment that can be used, and introducing winter rejuvenation.

GCMGA meets on the third Monday of each month at The Bethesda Senior Center, 225 Bethesda Church Road, Lawrenceville, GA 30044. The event is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome to bring a covered dish to share for a potluck lunch at 11am, or just arrive in time for the program which begins promptly at 11:30am.
