Key #1 Think about what you what to accomplishment academically and then set a few NEW goals. Write them somewhere visible so you can be reminded of what you are working towards. The most successful people know how to set achievable and positive goals and then take action that will make these goals attainable.
Key #2 See yourself as being successful. Create a visual image in your mind about what success looks like for you. Then, if and when there are times when you feel discouraged, remember this visual picture you created.
Key #3 Control your inner voice. All of us talk to ourselves in our minds and sometimes what we say is positive, uplifting or encouraging. So, change the messages in your mind that you sometimes say to yourself to positive ones; such as, “I can do this work.” “I have prepared well for this and am ready.” “I am improving and will continue to do so.” “I was uniquely created by God and have many skills, talents, and abilities to offer.” “I am going to work to my best ability and will accept the outcome since I have tried my best.” “I accept myself for the person God created me to be and will celebrate when I am successful at school and will keep on trying when the outcome is not what I wanted or expected.”
Key #4 Reward your accomplishments. When you reach a goal, whether it be a short term or long term one, do something to reward yourself. For example, if you like to play tennis and after you receive a high grade on a difficult math test, go out and play tennis for a couple of hours after school or have a friend over to do something fun together.
Key #5 Encourage others. When you help others to think more positively about themselves, you will not only have a positive impact on them but also on yourself. The Bible scripture, “It is more blessed to give than to receive”, Acts 20:35 is true! Helen Keller was quoted as saying, “The unselfish effort to bring cheer to others will be the beginning of a happier life for ourselves.” It feels good to encourage others because you have helped them feel better about the person they are!
