Experience NG3

Spring is finally here! The flowers are blooming, the clouds of pollen are clearing, and the school year is only a few exams from being completed. Every-thing seems to be a little brighter as the day starts earlier and ends later, and it’s not just the weather that seems to be looking up. NG3 has a number of reasons to be excited; community service projects, an inau-gural banquet, a message confirming the need for NG3, and more doors of opportunity to name a few.

NG3 Staff

The Southeast Gwinnett Co-op provides food and financial aid to local families in crisis. Recently, Grayson NG3 staff member, Dustin Mattox and Archer NG3 staff member, Thomas Jannett joined forces and took student athletes from both schools to serve at the co-op. Service is a foundational pillar for NG3(community is one of the 3 C’s). There is no better way to learn the importance of making a meaningful difference in the lives of those around us than living it out firsthand. How eye-opening it is for our high schoolers to see that we don’t live in a perfect world, and it is so important for us to pick each other up when the unforeseen knocks us down.

On April 26th, NG3 held their first annual Experience NG3 banquet. The over 200 people in attendance, heard, some for the first time, accounts of the numerous wonderful things NG3 is doing to make a positive impact in the lives of our high school student athletes. With over 30 high school students from all five NG3 high schools in attendance, the night was filled with great entertainment, delicious food, and a joyous spirit. A real highlight came from two sen-ior athletes from Berkmar High School as they shared some of their life-changing experiences with NG3 and NG3 staff member, Javier Munoz. Money was raised. Awareness was spread, and more people now than ever are eager to be a part of the NG3 family. New leads for volunteers wanting to participate with untapped sports, sponsors willing to financially contribute to make a difference in more lives, and a handful of potential new staff members are all products of this successful night.

On April 27th, after all the clean up had taken place, and the last minute scrambling now a distant memory, it came as a huge surprise that the most meaningful moment was about to take place. It was a simple text message. No flowery prose, just a thank you. One of the freshman student athletes in attendance wrote to the NG3 staff member at his school, “…It really means a lot to me to have a man that I can look up to as a father figure in my life…I ap-preciate it. Really” Often times, we toil and strive never knowing if we are reaching those we are so fervently trying to reach. This text puts it all in perspective. It is not about the fundraising or the messaging. It is about the lives. It is about the lives of the young people in our community whose backstory we don’t know but who are in dire need of people, us, to be there for them.
