Gwinnett’s at it again!

This past summer our immediate staff (family and Meredith who is like family but much calmer) made a decision by not making a decision.  None of us went on vacation. By late August we were a pleasant but zombie like group.

Brad Toren and Mary Grace Gaddy

2016 Valerie Clark 440Therefore, my husband Les put off knee surgery so he and I could make our Annual trip to the Telluride Colorado Film Festival.  While we watch movie after movie for 3 days, we also have an eclectic group of friends we see only during this weekend.

One favorite annual friend of Les is Mark Emmert, President of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Mr. Emmert with vast knowledge of a nation of high school and collegiate sports, knows quite a bit about…. Gwinnett County Athletics.  This further confirms what a standout personable and brilliant man he is and what a standout and exceptional area we live in.  Meanwhile, icing on the cake is that wife DeLaine Emmert and I talk horse shows.

All School Makeup Day on the first Saturday of October is Magic Moment Photography’s attempt to let any Seniors from any of our area high schools have one last chance to do their yearbook sitting. An Nguyen is an exceptionally handsome Peachtree Ridge Senior and from shirt to hair was going to make our job very easy.   Then asked to do the traditional standing 2017 pose, he explained with the matter of fate calm of a high school Senior, “ but my long pants are in the car.”  This is where staff member Lindsay Lee, Central Gwinnett Class of 2016, showed her mettle.  Lindsay, soccer athletes, is not only good natured and agile but as former editor of the CGHS yearbook, knows the importance of doing whatever is necessary for the pose!!!

On a beautiful Fall evening, throngs of Peachtree Ridge students came out to watch a football game against the Discovery Titans and then the tradition crowning of  the King and Queen at half time.  The entire group of Homecoming Royalty took a moment for a group picture.

Jan Mitchell photographed Discovery High School’s Court member Brooklyn Valera as she was escorted onto the field at half time.  Moments later she was named Queen and crowned by Principal Dr. Gene Taylor.  This was only the 2nd Homecoming ever and I am grateful to Dr. Maria Thurmond who was our Faculty Contact for working with us to not only has an event but build a tradition.

At Bethlehem Christian Academy, Mary Grace Gaddy and Brad Toren were named King and Queen.  They won and yet they feel like they were “framed”.  Brad Toxen is a standout baseball athlete and plans to continue playing in college while obtaining a degree in Sports Medicine. Mary Grace is deciding between Duke University and University of Georgia where she would like to prepare for post graduate medical studies.  Mary Grace’s Mother Donna, is a faculty member at BCA and is as lovely and charming as the Queen.

Grayson High School has had a tradition of dedicated volleyball athletes.  This year’s Head Coach Vanity McGough has Seniors Jazmine Antoine, Abbey Gbur and Nya Ross  to keep the Ram Spirit going!!

Mountain View High School is having a strong season under 2nd year Head Varsity Coach Nick Bach.  I am a fan of white outs, black outs, pink outs however, photographer Alexander Beard captured a MVHS Fan special effect that belongs in a blockbuster movie.  Caused by…. Talcum powder????
