Too much light

By definition, light is something that makes vision possible. Light can affect your mood and enhance your surroundings; but what can you do in a room where there is too much light?

Joan Miller

One of the questions I’ll ask is: do you want to soften the light or block it entirely? Do you need privacy? The answers will depend on which room or rooms where you want to control the light. For example, in your Family Room do you want to reduce or block the amount of bright sun that’s streaming in so you can watch TV, or in your Master Bedroom do you want as little light as possible so you can sleep when the sun is out? The answers begin to define which window covering product will provide the optimal solution to control the light.

There are many options available. One possibility is a shade that will open down from the top, allowing light in at the upper part of the window while keeping the lower part of the window covered for privacy. On a similar premise is a dual-purpose shade that has sheer fabric at the top and semi-opaque or opaque fabric at the bottom. It is 2 full shades connected to perform as a completely sheer shade for day-time use or a completely semi-opaque or opaque shade for either blocking the sun or night-time use. This type of shade sometimes referred to as a day-night shade provides lots of versatility because it can be positioned in varying stages of sheer and semi-opaque or opaque showing.

If you don’t like the idea of limiting your window covering to an up or down only operation, then a blind or plantation shutter will work to direct the light to make your room comfortable. There are some beautiful shades that have features to control light with sheer openings and horizontal or vertical vanes that will help to block light and UV rays.
