The cheerleaders hold an out-stretched banner across the end zone with words of inspiration written in oversized bubble letters. Onto the field sprints a brigade of highly trained athletes with a singular focus…WIN. It’s game day!
For seven schools, Archer, Brook-wood, George Walton Academy, Gray-son, Mill Creek, Peachtree Ridge, and Parkview, there is someone else taking the field alongside the coaches and players. This person also has a goal to win, but it is a victory that extends outside of the white chalk that lines the field. They are a NG3 Director whose purpose is to mentor these competitors on how to win in life, a task with impacts that extend in perpetuity.
Lamont Townsend at Peachtree Ridge and Jason Thompson at George Walton Academy are the newest additions to the NG3 team and are underway in creating a culture of selflessness and self awareness. For every NG3 Director, new or veteran, the foundation of reaching high school athletes is a commitment to investing time to intentionally build relationships with the students. Do what you say, serve others, and bring change. Those three messages permeate every campus on which NG3 serves, and it starts with the NG3 Directors demonstrating those mantras. Since day one, Jason and Lamont have been at every practice and game in order to demonstrate consistency and reliability. They are leading character lessons on topics like perseverance, dedication, and hard work. They are connecting with members of the community, including parents, local businesses, and school staff to share the purpose of NG3 and the reason behind their presence. It is also important to share, NG3 is not solely a “football thing”. Though football may be seen as the primary show in town during the Fall, NG3 works with all sports offered throughout the year, both male and female, and is serving some non-sports groups.
A former basketball player, Lamont Townsend understands the value of sports, and he is passionate about highlighting the life lessons team competitions can provide for the students at Peachtree Ridge. Lamont says he was drawn to NG3 because of the unique nature in which NG3 strives to connect directly with the high school students. Through these bonds, Lamont hopes to guide students into making better decisions and choices and building strong, Godly character in students who want to take it a step further. In order for Lamont to lead the charge in creating a positive wave of influence in the lives of student athletes at Peachtree Ridge, he needs volunteers from the community to join the movement.
So much of life can be related to sports, the ability to work with others, setting goals, selflessness, commitment, etc. If you would like to ensure our next generation understands sports offer more than simply an understanding of X’s and O’s of the game, please contact NG3 at info@ng3.org today. Our students need men and women from the community to invest in their lives to ensure a better tomorrow.
